Overhead Door Corp. has completed its acquisition of Wayne-Dalton’s residential and commercial door business. The transaction includes Mount Hope-based Wayne-Dalton’s Fabric-Shield storm panel business and creates the largest manufacturer, marketer, and distributor of residential and commercial overhead doors and operators in North America. With a combined fiscal year 2008 revenue of nearly $1 billion, it brings together Overhead Door, Wayne-Dalton, and Genie, positioning Overhead Door for global growth, the company said. Overhead will maintain its own and Wayne-Dalton’s brands, product lines, and distribution channels. Overhead Door, based in Dallas, is a manufacturer of doors and openers for residential, commercial, industrial, and transportation applications.

Wayne Dalton Garage Doors created the original overhead garage door in 1921 and the first electric garage door opener in 1926. It now has over 3,500 employees, 24 manufacturing facilities, 79 regional sales centers and over 6,000 distributors and dealers that service national builders, national accounts, architects, general contractors and homeowners, as well as major retailers in the U.S. and Canada. Overhead Door Corp. completed an agreement Monday to acquire Wayne-Dalton Corp.’s residential and commercial overhead door business. Overhead Door Corp. completed an agreement Monday to acquire Wayne-Dalton Corp.’s residential and commercial overhead door business. Wayne-Dalton’s operations have been headquartered at Mount Hope, where 613 people are employed. There are another 23 employees at the plant at Trail. Among Overhead Door Corp. operations is a manufacturing plant for Genie Co. products at 606 N. Ray St., off Rt. 93, at Baltic.

The plant employs about 120 people. The deal includes Wayne-Dalton’s Fabric-Shield storm panel business in North America and Europe. Wayne-Dalton will retain its garage door opener and wireless home access control businesses and continue the manufacture, marketing and sale of those products. The transaction creates the largest manufacturer, marketer, and distributor of residential and commercial overhead doors and operators in the North American market, with the fiscal year 2008 revenues of nearly \$1 billion. It brings together three exceptionally strong brands: Overhead Door, Wayne-Dalton, and Genie, and strategically positions Overhead Door Corp. for global growth, according to Dennis Stone, president and chief executive officer of Overhead Door.

“As we reviewed our options for long-term growth and enhancing our position within the residential and commercial door businesses, we could not identify a better partner than Wayne-Dalton,” Stone said. Overhead Door Corp. will maintain Overhead Door and Wayne-Dalton’s brand identities, product lines, and distribution channels. The combined company “will capitalize on its efficient, strategically located production facilities and distribution networks covering all 50 U.S. states, Canada, Mexico, and Europe,” he said.

The transaction also is expected to enhance service to national builders, major retailers, architects, general contractors, homeowners, property owners, and the distributors and dealers of the Overhead Door, Wayne-Dalton and Genie branded products. “Beginning today, Wayne-Dalton and Overhead Door Corp. will combine their long-standing reputations for product and industry leaders to strengthen the door industry, and more importantly ensure a focus on product innovation that will generate better and more feature-rich products for the marketplace,” Stone said. “This is the greatest source of continued stability and prosperity for our combined companies, customers, and suppliers.” Overhead Door Corp. is based in Dallas, Texas, and owned by the parent company Sanwa Holdings Corp. in Tokyo, Japan.
